Barry Manilow

Barry Manilow was born in Brooklyn and was raised by his mother and grandparents, Russian-Jewish immigrants, when his father left the family when Barry was two. At age seven he took up the accordion, but preferred the piano, which would serve him well throughout his career. He began singing shortly before his Bar Mitzvah at the age of 13 and following high school, he was accepted to the prestigious Juilliard School of Music.
