 The Suns entered the league in 1968. Former University of Oklahoma coach John MacLeod became the Sun's head coach in 1973. It wasn't until the 1975-1976 season that the Suns really exploded. In four out of five years in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Suns registered more than 50 victories. In 1981-1982, the Suns won their first ever division title in team history. 1987 John Wetzel is hired as coach. 1990 The Suns and City of Phoenix break ground on a new arena. 1992 Hawkins becomes the first Suns player inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. 1996 Barkley is named to the team for the 1998 Olympic Games. The Phoenix Suns have made some major changes by trading players and hiring a new coaching staff.
