Willie Nelson

Willie Hugh Nelson is an American icon with a distinctive style of music and a distinctive image marked by his red hair, often braided into two ponytails and partially concealed under a bandana. He reached his greatest fame during the outlaw country movement of the 1970s, where he aligned himself with Waylon Jennings. Nelson released Shotgun Willie in 1973 and Phases and Stages in 1974 for Atlantic Records. After moving to Columbia Records, Willie Nelson released the extremely popular album, Red Headed Stranger in 1975 with the hit "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain". Wanted: The Outlaws! was released in 1976 with Waylon Jennings, Jessi Colter, and Tompall Glaser and was country music's first platinum album. Nelson continued to produce hit songs during the late 1970s and the early 1980s, including a duet with Jennings, "Good Hearted Woman", "Remember Me", "If You've Got the Money I've Got the Time", "Uncloudy Day", "I Love You a Thousand Ways", "Something to Brag About", "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys", "Always on my Mind", "On The Road Again" and the duet with Julio Iglesias "To All the Girls I've Loved Before". In the mid 1980s, Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Johnny Cash formed a group called The Highwaymen, which became highly successful. In 1990, the IRS gave Willie Nelson a bill for 16.7 million dollars in back taxes and so to help pay his debt he released The IRS Tapes: Who'll Buy My Memories? as a double album.
